B-R-E-A-T-H-E!

Can you stop right now and take a few breaths?
  • Breathe in, lift the breastbone up
  • Breathe out, feel the shoulder blades slide back and down


Doing this reminds me of that old Rolaids slogan: 
“How do you spell relief”?
Yogic Version: B-R-E-A-T-H-E!


Which brings me to one more quote, passed on to me  from another yogi:
“We are not slow learners, we are fast forgetters”
Think about that for a minute. For me, it brought a chuckle right away. But then the more I pondered it, like so many truths, it just keep revealing more & more. 
  1. Do we need to “learn” how to breathe or do we need to learn practices that show us how we forgot what healthy breathing feels like?
  2. Do we really have to learn to “connect” to our energy centers or are we just learning about connections that are already there and have been forgotten?
  3. Do we have to “learn” to be healthy or do we engage in practices that uncover the emotions & and beliefs that may interfere with our health?
  4. Do we need to learn ways to be happy or do we simply open to the experience of our true nature,  which is inherently whole, peaceful and content even as we simultaneously experience the ups and downs of daily life?
Through practices of breathing, gentle movement & yoga nidra, we can experience that which has been forgotten. I find more and more that it is less about learning something to fix as much as it is about uncovering what has been forgotten. Take a few moments this week and peel back the layers.
